Duke’s Freshmen Looking To Make Early Statement

The majority of the buzz building up to the college basketball season circled around Barrett, Williamson and Cam Reddish.

The first-year trio enters the collegiate level with championship-or-bust expectations, and if the Blue Devils reach their full potential, they could go down as one of the best teams in the history of the sport.

But before we throw all sorts of superlatives at Mike Krzyzewski’s bunch, the Blue Devils need to show us what they’re capable of on the court.

Barrett and Williamson are the most recognizable names of the threesome, as Barrett was the top recruit in the high school class of 2018 and Williamson’s been a YouTube sensation for years.

However, the most important part of Duke’s roster could be Reddish, who could be drafted in the top five of the 2019 NBA draft, but he’s been overlooked entering the season.

As ESPN.com’s Paul Biancardi noted, Reddish has the most potential of the players in the freshman class:

Paul Biancardi @PaulBiancardi

Wait until Cam Reddish puts it all together! Extremely gifted, with the size of an NBA sf (7’1” wingspan) that owns a controlled handle in the open floor & passing vision. A capable shooter & a creative scorer who facilitates. Highest potential in the class!

As for how Krzyzewski is going to fit his talented freshmen on the court, Barrett and Reddish can both take care of the ball-handling duties while setting up on the perimeter to knock down three-point shots, while Williamson can bring the ball up the floor in addition to using his athleticism to create mismatches in the paint.

Since Barrett, Reddish and Williamson are so versatile, Krzyzewski should use them off the ball, with Tre Jones, the younger brother of Tyus Jones, starting at point guard.

While the freshmen will be expected to do the majority of the heavy lifting on both ends of the court, Duke is going to have to rely on its depth in some stretches.

Keep an eye on juniors Marques Bolden and Javin DeLaurier and sophomore Alex O’Connell as X-factors off the bench throughout the season.

But if we’re being honest with ourselves, all we care about Tuesday is evaluating the stars on the Duke roster and how they’ll adjust to the next level.

Kentucky Hoping To Bank On Mix Of Experience and Youth

The 2018-19 Kentucky Wildcats are molded a bit different than the conventional one-and-done teams we’ve seen for most of John Calipari’s tenure.

For starters, the most important player on the Kentucky roster is Stanford transfer Reid Travis, who has four years of college basketball experience.

With Travis and sophomores Quade Green, P.J. Washington and Nick Richards in the fold, the Wildcats won’t go through growing pains with a young roster like they have in the past.

The quartet of experienced players will be able to help along the talented freshman class led by Keldon Johnson, Ashton Hagans and Tyler Ferro.

With an embarrassment of riches at each position, the Wildcats should be able to deal with the majority of challenges they face, including the athleticism of the Duke freshmen.

Given how much balance Kentucky has, it wouldn’t be surprising to see four or five players average double-digit points per game.

On Tuesday, the X-factors for the Wildcats will be their big men, as they attempt to prevent Duke’s thunderous excursions into the paint, led by Williamson.

Washington, Montgomery and Travis will be tasked with protecting the rim, and if they can limit the second-chance opportunities of the Blue Devils and create some of their own on the offensive glass, the Wildcats will be in good shape.

Offensively, Johnson will be the key for the Wildcats, as he’ll flash his freakish athleticism to get around Duke’s defenders and spark a few momentum shifts.

If the Wildcats flex their depth in the right way, they’ll be able to shift some of the hype from the Blue Devils to themselves as nonconference play begins.

Bills vs Patriots

Bills vs Patriots :NFL game schedule today starts with the Bills vs Patriots, live from London’s Wembley Stadium with a broadcast time of 9:30 a.m. ET.Vikings, plus Patriots vs. Bills on “Monday Night Football.” reported, there’s a new way NFL games for free on your phone in the 2018 season

Patrick Mahomes struggled out of the gate in the huge Sunday Night Football matchup between the Chiefs and Patriots, but fought back to make it a game into the closing seconds. Unfortunately for him, the Chiefs fell short, and are now 5-1 on the season following the 43-40 Patriots victory.

Tom Brady was great for the Patriots, finishing the game with 340 yards and a touchdown, as well as one rushing touchdown. Mahomes finished with 352 yards, four touchdowns and a pair of interceptions. Mahomes will get some flack for his early struggles, but Sunday evening really was a showdown between two of the top quarterbacks in the game.

Below you can see our updates from the Mahomes-Brady battle as the game happened, in reverse order.

Brady finds Gronk for big gain as Pats kick field goal for win

The Patriots run the ball a couple times, and the Chiefs take a timeout. But they’re in a rough spot, as Brady finds White for 16 yards and then Gronkowski for 39 yards. They center the ball, and then call a timeout with three seconds remaining. Gostkowski connects and the Patriots win!

Mahomes throws 4th TD on 75-yard bomb

Well, if the Patriots started their last drive with the big play, the Chiefs started their next drive with a HUGE play. Mahomes had good protection and found Hill for a 75-yard touchdown to tie the game!

Big play from Brady to Gronk leads to another Patriots field goal

After a quick Chiefs punt, Brady finds Gronkowski for a catch-and-run that goes 42 yards. The Chiefs do manage to force a field goal attempt — and it’s good. So it’s a seven-point lead with 3:15 to go.

Brady scrambles for TD as Patriots regain lead

It didn’t take long for the Patriots to get back into scoring position, as Brady hits White for 9 yards, then Hogan for 24 yards. In Kansas City territory, he hits Hogan again for 19 yards, to the Chiefs’ 5-yard line. After as hot pickup from White, Brady scrambled and ran in his own 4-yard touchdown for another four-point lead.

Huge return sets up third Mahomes TD and Chiefs lead

Brady hit White for 9 yards, and another short one to him after that, but the ensuing drive was primarily made up of rushes. Eventually, they kick a field goal to take a four-point lead. But upon the Gostkowski kickoff, Smith takes it 97 yards to the Chiefs 3-yard line! They lose a yard, then pick up a yard. On third down, Mahomes hits Hill for the short touchdown and a Chiefs lead.

Brady fumble turns into Mahomes TD

Brady missed Gordon and White on deep throws after the Patriots took over, then he was sacked by Ragland. It was a coverage sack, and it resulted in a fumble that was recovered by the Chiefs! Mahomes found Watkins for a 15-yard gain, and then he hit Hill for a pretty 14-yard touchdown. It’s a two-point game, but the Chiefs elect to kick the extra point. Surprising … Chiefs trail by one.

Mahomes keeper sets up another Chiefs field goal

After the quick Kansas City touchdown, the Patriots took over six minutes off the clock on a drive that saw Brady hit Gordon twice for 20 yards. He tried to find Gordon again in the end zone, but he was well-covered and the Patriots settled for a field goal. The Chiefs took back over, and faced an early fourth down after Mahomes hit Hill for a 9-yard gain. Mahomes kept the ball to pick up a first down on the ground, then at midfield. Mahomes had a short pass afterward, but ultimately they had to settle for another field goal. 27-19 Patriots.

Hunt snags 67-yard TD from Mahomes to start second half

The Chiefs got the ball to start the second half, and they needed just over a minute to get a touchdown. Hunt picked up 8 yards on the ground, then Mahomes went deep to Hunt for a 67-yard touchdown to put the Chiefs right back in the game.

Mahomes picked again before half

Trying to pick up some points before the second half, Mahomes managed to hit Kelce for 10- and 8-yard gains, and also found Hill for 27 and 14 yards. But in the red zone, on a first down, Mahomes tried to throw to Kelce in the end zone, and instead it wound up being his second pick of the night. Patriots lead, 24-9, at halftime.

Brady, Patriots add another TD before halftime

With six minutes to go in the first half, the Patriots took over and began driving. Brady hot White for 17 yards, then Patterson for 13 yards. A 37-yard pass interference penalty on Kansas City (Gordon was the attempted receiver) pushed them to the goal line. Michel eventually runs it in for the New England touchdown. Seven plays, 75 yards on the drive.

Mahomes, Chiefs settle for another field goal

After an iffy start, the Chiefs managed to put together a nice drive after the bad turnover and PAtriots score. Mahomes had passes to Hunt of 6 and 7 yards, and then found Kelce for a big 17-yard gain to take them into the red zone. Unfortunately, they couldn’t get it done from there and had to kick another field goal, making it a 17-9 game.

Brady hits Edelman for perfect TD pass

There was another bad overthrow by Mahomes, and the Chiefs wound up kicking another field goal to make it a 10-6 game. When the Patriots took over, they started driving. Brady hit Gronkowski for 16 yards, and then Edelman for 14 yards as the first quarter came to an end. He found Edelman again for a 17-yard touchdown, and it was a beauty:

Oof, Mahomes throws bad INT

After the Patriots tied it at 3-3, Mahomes’ first pass of the Kansas City drive went right to Hightower for an interception. He returned it all the way to the 4-yard line, and the Patriots quickly scored to make it a 10-3 game.

Mahomems with two bad overthrows early, Patriots running

Mahomes had Kareem Hunt for a for-sure touchdown, as the running back had his man beat big time, but Mahomes overthrew the ball slightly, so it fell incomplete. He did, however, find Kelce for gains of 17 and 9 yards on the drive. On third down, just outside the red zone, Mahomes overthrows Tyreek Hill, again just barely. Those were both touchdowns, but fell incomplete instead! So close!

On the ensuing drive, Brady only threw three passes, two of which went to Hogan for 17 yards. The rest was all the running game, and it allowed the Patriots to tie the game at 3-3.

Patriots have turnover on downs to start

Brady started the game with a pass to Gordon for 12 yards, and then targeted him again on a deep pass attempt that fell incomplete. Brady also threw incomplete to Gronkowski, and then again to Gordon on fourth down, giving the Chiefs the ball at their own 40-yard line.

8:10 p.m.: Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have looked unstoppable for much of the 2018 season. Tom Brady and the New England Patriots have looked unstoppable for much of the past … 17 years or so. This season, the Chiefs are undefeated while the Patriots have had their struggles, but have regained some form with the addition of more receiving options for Brady.

We’re going to follow along on the Brady vs. Mahomes battle to see who comes out on top. We’ll be posting highlights and analysis as the team’s face off on Sunday Night Football, starting not long after kickoff at 8:20 p.m. ET.

Before the season started, few would have pegged the Kansas City Chiefs vs. the New England Patriots as the top Sunday Night Football matchup of the season, but here we are. Patrick Mahomes is lighting up the world, while Tom Brady and the Patriots seem to be finding their groove. They’re set to play from Gillette Stadium at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC (live streaming via ).

The Chiefs are 5-0 on the season, scoring 30-plus points in all but one game, in which they scored 27. Some games have been closer than others, but Mahomes has 1,513 yards, 14 touchdowns and two interceptions while completing 63.6 percent of his passes this season. He’s been fantastic.

For the Patriots, they started the season off slowly, but with both Julian Edelman back from suspension and the recently-acquired Josh Gordon getting more acquainted with the offense, they’re just going to get better as the season progresses.

Chiefs vs. Patriots news
On the final injury report, the Chiefs ruled out Eric Murray and De’Anthony Thomas, and listed Tanoh Kpassagnon as questionable.
In usual Patriots fashion, they’ve listed nine players as questionable for Sunday, including Chris Hogan and Gordon.
Bill Belichick is well aware that the Chiefs can destroy teams through the air on both short and deep passing plays, especially when it’s Mahomes connecting with Tyreek Hill.
But there are more weapons on that Chiefs offense — they need to be wary of Kareem Hunt as well.
Kareem Hunt isn’t the only versatile player on Sunday — Patriots running back James White currently leads the team in receptions.
The folks at Pats Pulpit take a look at what the Patriots need to do on both offense and defense to beat the Chiefs.
These are the primary keys to the game for the Chiefs if they hope to escape Foxboro with a win on Sunday.

Mexico and Chile forecast
Mexico has higher quality, but Chile has some veterans who want to prove that they are still like Fabian Orellana. He expects very few goals, but Mexico wants to win. Mexico 2, Chile 1.

Mexico’s interim coach, Ricardo Farati, does not want his players to play in the team’s first friendly match in a 6-0 victory over Copa América Centenario two weeks ago. Chile

Ferretti said that because the two sides entered situations different from those of 2016, the game will not be a revenge, nor will it be a friendly match.

“The last game was not nice, it was the last result with you,” Ferretti said at a press conference on Monday. “They are absent, and we are the same, but this is a new process, tomorrow we will have more players that we can see, we can play at their level, but we can not make the same mistakes, each game is different.” I hope tomorrow is different. “

Tigres UANL manager Ferretti said he had not heard of the failure of his players before the discussion, and that the defeat occurred in the quarterfinals of the celebration.

Instead, they focus on the next game, where Ferretti says the team must play aggressively and responsibly to win.

This is a story about young children, the decline, where they came from and the clubs that were once powerful returned to the big stage.

“I think they can turn it into a stadium,” said Farati. “We made a mistake when we beat Costa Rica 3-2 on Thursday, I hope we are in good condition because we know how important our competitors are, but we have to play without the final result.”

“I hope they show their qualities on the court and do enough to get good grades, this is a new opportunity, a new national team, we should be aware of this.”

Complying with the result of 7-0 is abnormal, Ferretti emphasized that Mexico will do everything possible to fight against Chile.

“We hope to do better and deserve a victory,” he said. “Everyone is talking about not failing, I’m thinking about winning, like a player.”

Ferretti also realized that the game at Coradidora Stadium could be a good opportunity to help young players who could pass from generation to generation in Mexico for the 2022 World Cup.

“We are interested in using this game, and if there is an opportunity to see these players in the future, it would be great,” said Ferretti. “I’m waiting for a different game and [I know] we will respect them, but do not worry about what happened in the past.”

Although Mexico was eliminated from the World Cup in 16 rounds in July, Chile is not even qualified, but Ferretti believes they are still strong.

“I do not think they’re injured,” said Ferretti. “They are very healthy, if I have to say something to the Chilean team, I will tell my players that they can use it.”

Denmark vs Austria

Eriksson, the hero of the hat-trick, defeated the Irish qualifiers with a 5-1 victory in November last year, but the Tottenham midfielders are not fit for Saturday’s national league rematch.

Belgium vs Netherlands

Belgium vs Netherlands

Belgium vs Netherlands :The Soccer International Friendly 2018 The Uefa Nations League is on, however, according to the games schedule, The Netherlands will play against Belgium in a friendly match on Tuesday..

Belgium vs Netherlands
International Friendly
Date: Tuesday, 16th October 2018
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
King Baudouin Stadium, Brussels

But don’t discount the Dutch’s ambition and excitement after crushing Germany in the Nations League last week. But here, Belgium is just too much. Belgium 3, Netherlands 1.
Belgium were hugely impressive at the World Cup this year, the Red Devils managing their best-ever showing at the competition with an exit at the semi-final stage to eventual winners France. The Belgians had reached the last-four on one previous occasion but this time around they earned their semi-final place thanks to wins over the likes of England and even more impressively, Brazil. They ultimately finished third in the competition thanks to their play-off win over England and confidence will certainly be pretty high in the side ahead of their meeting with the Netherlands this week, the bookmakers giving away free bets on Belgium v Netherlands.

Belgium vs Netherlands
International Friendly
Date: Tuesday, 16th October 2018
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
King Baudouin Stadium, Brussels

The Netherlands have been a shadow of their former selves in recent months and it is clear that they are struggling with an identity crisis at the moment. They have historically been one of the big hitters in the international scene but they have fallen by the wayside of late with managers coming and going with alarming regularity. Current boss Ronald Koeman has a difficult task lifting the national side to previous heights and he has enjoyed a decent start to life as head coach with the Dutch having lost just one of their last six matches across all competitions, this culminating in a 3-0 thrashing of Germany at the weekend.

Nevertheless Belgium are certainly the better side and we expect them to edge this international friendly although they won’t have things all their own way and we expect the Netherlands to play their part in making this a thoroughly entertaining affair, Coral Bookmakers going 21/20 on Belgium to win and both teams to score.

Belgium has been on fine form and they are ascending the steps of international football with the passage of time. Under the stewardship of Roberto Martinez and the presence of the blessed Eden Hazard, Belgium will be an insurmountable task on any given day and the match being at home, the visiting side will have to sweat blood for a victory.

Netherlands just decimated Germany in their UEFA Nations League game and travels to Brussels in high spirits. They would have their work cut out for them but the likes of Memphis Depay, Virgil Van Dijk etc will boost their chances.

This is going to be an exciting encounter for football fans. The free-flowing Belgian style takes on the strategic brilliance of the Orange squad. Mark your calendar for this one because this is something that should not definitely be missed.

Belgium vs. Netherlands / International – There is strong neighbouring rivalry between Belgium and Netherlands but this time the two teams will play friendly after well done job in the League of Nations.

Belgium won both so far played matches and is on its way to win the first place in the group. The Dutch weren’t that successful given they lost to France but on the other hand they soundly won Germany several days ago. The two teams mostly play friendly in recent years, where the one from 2016 had ended as 1-1 draw.

Belgium vs Netherlands begins 16.10.2018 at 20:45 CETThe biggest part of the job is finished for Belgium and they will use this gathering for a friendly with the Dutch. At the first glance the match bears no significance, however, there is big rivalry between the two national teams and victory is important for both of them for reinforcing self-confidence and proving who is better at the moment.

Belgium seems better right now in all parameters as it is the first in FIFA rank list and it won the third place at the World Cup. It also won both League of Nations matches, as well as friendly with Scotland. They easily won Iceland away 3-0 in the first round but nothing went easily against Switzerland in Basel. The guests were close to pull a draw but Lukaku was again hero of the match, this time with two goals, where the second one was scored just six minutes before the end. Vertonghen and de Bruyne are not invited and manager Martinez will probably make new changes in

The Dutch weren’t even close as successful as their hosts and it can be said that they swapped roles in last couple of years, but it can be also noticed that the Netherlands is slowly but surely returning where it objectively belongs.

They skipped two previous major competitions, however, they showed their character in the League of Nations. True, they were defeated 2-1 in France at the beginning of competition cycle but they put up solid resistance to reigning champions of the world. They shined on Saturday in the second round when they defeated another great rival Germany 3-0 in Amsterdam.

The match reminded on good old Netherlands that used belong to the very top of world’s football, where they definitely want to return.

Since Ronald Koeman took over the team the Dutch lost minimally to England and France and have defeated reigning champion of Europe, Portugal and former champions of the world, the Germans.

World Cup semi-finalists Belgium host the Netherlands on Tuesday evening at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, in what looks on paper to be one of the more mouth-watering international friendlies this week. Both teams are full of confidence after weekend wins in the Nations League, with the Dutch in particularly buoyant mood after their 3-0 destruction of Germany in Amsterdam. The Belgians of course, came so close to reaching their first ever World Cup Final in the summer, but suffered semi-final heartbreak when they were narrowly beaten by the eventual winners France. This fixture dates back over a 100 years and the hosts have the upper hand having won two of the last four meetings including a 4-2 victory last time they played host to Tuesday’s opponents. Their last meeting ended in a 1-1 draw in a friendly played in November 2016.

The Red Devils were eliminated by France in the World Cup semi-finals but have won four games since. Belgium won 2-0 against England in the third place playoff in Russia before dismantling Scotland 4-0 in an international friendly.

Belgium’s UEFA Nations League campaign is off to a good start with two wins from two. Roberto Martinez saw his side win 3-0 in Iceland before a 2-1 home win against Switzerland in a hard fought match in Brussels. Romelu Lukaku scored both goals including an 84th minute winner.

Brazil vs Argentina

Brazil vs Argentina : international Game have battled, the Brazil side when they face Saudi Arabia in an international friendly ahead of a meeting with Argentina,The first half ended even better. Neymar doubled Brazil’s lead to make it 2-0 at the break with a lethal .

Brazil vs Argentina Live

Neymar is pleased Brazil will not have to go up against Lionel Messi when they take on Argentina in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.Messi was not included in Lionel Scaloni’s squad for the second successive set of internationals as speculation over his Argentina future in the wake of a disappointing World Cup campaign rumbles on.Neymar acknowledged the absence of his former Barcelona team-mate is a blow for the spectators watching the game, but he feels it gives Brazil a greater chance of overcoming their rivals.

However, the Paris Saint-Germain star was keen to emphasise that Argentina still possess great quality, singling out Paulo Dybala as an example of the talent in their ranks.“For those who love football, having Messi out of a game like this is bad. But for us it’s good,” Neymar told a pre-match news conference. “We never underestimate Argentina’s quality, the players they have in their squad. After operating from the left wing for much of his career, Neymar has on occasion been used in the number 10 position by Thomas Tuchel at PSG this season.

The 26-year-old, who assisted Gabriel Jesus and Alex Sandro in Friday’s 2-0 win over Saudi Arabia, enjoys the playmaking aspect of the role and is open to any demands placed upon him.“I think, depending on the match, it might be necessary to change the position a little, but that’s the decision of the coach, not me,” said Neymar.

“In Paris, I’ve been playing centrally and here, Tite gives me more freedom, not only to stay in the centre but also up front.“Over the years a player will look for their best position … it is part of football, but I think I still have a lot to give.“The more you play, the more experience you have and will know the time to decide a match or go forward. I know how to do this on the pitch and I know my role.

“I am an attacker on my team, a playmaker. Not just me, but also [Philippe] Coutinho, [Roberto] Firmino, Lucas [Moura], [Gabriel] Jesus – we are there to create chances, to set up our team-mates.“I’m happy, I do not run away from any responsibility on the pitch. I look to dribble, create opportunities.”

France vs Germany

France vs Germany : World champions France are up first for Germany in the inaugural Nations League clash. It has been less than a year since the sides played out a 2-2 draw in Cologne, with Alexandre Lacazette twice putting Les Bleus in the lead only for their hosts to twice hit back in an exciting friendly.

Since then, the fortunes of the sides have differed dramatically, with France going on to win in Russia thanks to their pragmatic play, while Germany stunningly crashed out in the group stage.

France are back in action for the first time since their World Cup triumph in Russia as Les Bleus head to Germany for their inaugural Uefa Nations League match.

Didier Deschamps guided France to victory in this summer’s World Cup in Russia, beating Croatia 4-2 in the final to win the most prestigious prize in world football.

As for Germany, Joachim Low’s 2014 champions must begin the task of rebuilding their reputation after crashing out in the group stages.

It’s a rare thing in football that a coach can admit he got his approach to a major tournament complete and utterly wrong, and yet can not only survive but look forward to seeing out a new long-term deal.

It’s rare that a football association can make a series of misjudgements about matters on and off the pitch, some of which exacerbated a situation that saw one of that nation’s most talented players walk away from international football, and yet no-one loses their position.

And yet here Germany are, building for Euro 2020 with coach Joachim Löw still at the helm (he admitted he thought he could cruise through the World Cup group stage, and only make tactical tweaks in the knockout phase), and with the DFB structure that supports him still intact after the inept handling of Mesut Ozil. This isn’t the forum for that debate, but the effect of the Arsenal midfielder’s self-imposed international exile will be felt for some time.

After a disastrous World Cup, Löw has to find a new way forward. The hubris and complacency that cost Die Mannschaft dearly in Russia has to be cast aside, and an incredibly talented group of players must now find a way to perform.

As European football expert Andy Brassell points out in this piece for Betting.Betfair, the Bayern contingent have made an incredibly strong start to the domestic season, with Thomas Muller particularly impressive in the Bundesliga.

Angel Acosta vs Abraham Rodriguez

Acosta has the adoration and support from people in Puerto Rico, he is a world titleholder and he is part of what many consider to be the greatest rivalry in boxing.

He also has the penchant to end fights with one punch.

Acosta will defend his WBO junior flyweight title tonight against Abraham Rodriguez inside The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The 12-round bout will headline a ‘Facebook Watch’ stream (9 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. PT).

The fight will be another chapter in the Mexico-Puerto Rico rivalry. Will Acosta-Rodriguez be added to the significant bouts that made the rivalry between the boxing-rich countries, such as Salvador Sanchez-Wilfredo Gomez, Julio Cesar Chavez, Edwin Rosario, and Gomez-Lupe Pintor?

Even the two recent wars between Orlando Salido and Juan Manuel Lopez gave the rivalry the jolt it needed.

That all depends on what game-plans both Acosta and Rodriguez want to implement, but it also depends on how aggressive and willing both fighters will stand and trade in the pocket during the fight. For Acosta, he will do his part to give fans action.

“This fight (tonight) has the potential to be the best in this rivalry,” Acosta told BoxingScene.com over the phone earlier this week. “I’ve always done my part to be in great fights. To give the fans a great show. This fight between myself and Rodriguez could live up to the expectations of the great fights between Puerto Ricans and Mexicans. Everyone knows when Puerto Ricans and Mexicans fight that it is going to be a war.”

Acosta (18-1, 18 knockouts), who lives and trains in San Juan, will be defending his WBO title for the second time. In his last bout on June 16, the 28-year-old Acosta stopped Carlos Buitrago of Nicaragua in the 12th and final round in his hometown of San Juan.

He will face a fighter in Rodriguez (23-1, 11 KOs), who resides in Tijuana, that who’s most impressive win was a unanimous decision over contender Saul Juarez on Dec. 6. Acosta knows Rodriguez will give it his all to take the title away from him.

“I know this is Rodriguez’s first time fighting for a world title,” said Acosta, who won the vacant WBO title on Dec. 2, knocking out Juan Alejo in round 10. “I know what he is going through. I was once the challenger when I fought for a world title. I have to be more motivated and hungry to keep my crown.”

Acosta would like to unify the division. There are other world titleholders in the division, including Japan’s Ken Shiro (WBC) and Hekkie Budler of South Africa (WBA). Nicaragua’s Felix Alvarado and Randy Petalcorin of the Philippines are fighting for the vacant IBF title on Oct. 29.

With the talented fighters at 108 pounds jostling for position as to who the best is, Acosta is modest on where he ranks himself in the division.

“I know I’m a good fighter. I believe I’m one of the best fighters in the division. The press and boxing fans know that the 108-pound division is a tough division. I’m just trying to be the best I can be.”

Acosta also fights for the people of Puerto Rico who were affected by Hurricane Maria last year.

“The hurricane was tough, but Puerto Rico is recovering little by little. I fight for them as I watch the island rebuild. Seeing the people pick themselves up does motivate me to fight and do well for the people. I know Puerto Rico will rise again.”

He may be a world titleholder, and he could be at the peak of his career, but Acosta believes he can still become a better fighter and improve his skill-set.

There are also the possibilities of fighting on bigger fight cards on larger platforms in the future, which is why Acosta wants to be the best fighter he can be. A win tonight over Rodriguez will put him in that spot sometime late next year.

“I believe that you always learn, especially in boxing. I want to continue learning in this sport. I’m grateful to learn from my corner. I can’t say I’m a complete fighter yet, but I am working hard to achieve that goal.”

“I am grateful to Cotto Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions (who co-promote Acosta) for the opportunities they have given me so far. I just have to follow through and do my job to work hard in the gym and defend my world title.”

LEE McGREGOR believes that being thrown into a Commonwealth title clash in just his fifth fight is a massive show of faith by Cyclone Promotions and he aims to prove them on right on Saturday when he takes on Thomas Essomba for the vacant bantamweight crown at York Hall in London.

The unbeaten 21-year-old, who has compiled a record of 4-0, all by stoppage, is well aware that Essomba will provide him with a stern challenge, but he is prepared for all eventualities, including going the distance for the first time since his switch to the pro ranks last year.

“Lightning” Lee explained to Boxing News: “It’s a huge show of faith and a risk. But, I’ll show everyone that it was the right risk to take and show everyone what I can do by leaving with that Commonwealth title after just five fights.

“Thomas is a tough man and I’ve got to be switched on all the way through. He’ll be there in front of me all fight and I want to make a statement by becoming the first man to stop him and show that I am the level above him.

“I’ve never been the distance and it’s intriguing to see whether I will and how I’ll cope in that situation. I know I’ll just get stronger, but it’s all well and good saying that, I have to show it. This fight is a chance to show my skills and prove that I’m one of the best in Britain.”

With a victory against Essomba, McGregor will then turn his focus to potential all-Scottish derbies at bantamweight, in particular a clash with new British champion Ukashir Farooq, who won the title last month in Glasgow by stopping Jamie Wilson in the first round.

The Edinburgh man was previously due to meet another Scottish bantam Scott Allan last year and is looking forward to some big nights back home across the border, but knows that these fights are only possible if he gets past Essomba on Saturday.

“I’ve got a huge hunger and desire to bring some more big nights to Scotland and the fight with Farooq would be big back home. The Scots always come out for those battles like Alex Arthur and Ricky Burns, so I’m desperate to be a part of one myself,” he said.

“When I win on Saturday, it will open doors and more fights that I would take in a second. I’m fully focused on Saturday, but the opportunities are there if I win.

“I’ve shown my willing when the fight was made with Allan, which would have been just my third fight, so everyone knows I’ll fight anyone at anytime. I know I can beat them all now, but I also want the hard fights which Thomas Essomba will be.

“Essomba is a much harder fight than what Farooq had to win the British, so I’ll be much better off when that fight eventually happens. It’s one year on from when I switched over from the amateurs and I was told at the time it was a stupid decision.

“I’ve proven those people wrong and I’m already fighting for big titles, whereas I could have been at the Commonwealth Games this year and ended up getting injured or losing a bad decision, so I’d be coming home empty handed. I’m delighted with my decision and it’s onwards and upwards from here.”
